Sammy, you filled my heart with Indy and Lucca, but your presence is forever there, and I feel you with me, girl.
On April 16, 2012, my heart was shattered. I had to let my Sam, my heart and soul, go. It still hurts like it was yesterday. Samantha got me through the toughest times I’ve ever had to face. She made every day worth getting out of bed.
My Sam wasn’t a rescue per se, she just found herself in need of a new home at 5 years of age. And oddly, I was desperately in need of a companion at the same time. Synchronicity at its finest. We had 10 remarkable years together until a cancer came that she couldn’t beat.
A few months after she was gone, in a very quiet house, still filled with grief and loss, I believe she led me to explore rescue sites. I think she pushed me to find Indy. And somehow, the universe (and Sam) led him to me. It was an out-of-the-ordinary adoption situation, but it was meant to be. He needed me as much as I needed him. Because of the two of them, I was ultimately inspired to become a pet photographer, but that’s a story for another time.
Since Indy and, subsequently, Lucca came to me, the rescue has played an important role in my life, primarily through transporting, photography and fundraising. Sammy, you filled my heart with Indy and Lucca, but your presence is forever there, and I feel you with me, girl.
